'nearly 30 other “friends of the court” amicus briefs have also been filed, representing almost 100 organizations and individuals who believe Prop 8 should be upheld. In response to our elected officials’ dereliction of duty and the grievous error of an appointed federal judge’s decision to strike down the measure, many of those briefs strongly join in the defense of Prop 8 and supply reasoned content on matters such as religious liberty, parenting, and gender orientation.



A brief filed by the Attorneys General of 13 states (Alaska, Alabama, Florida, Idaho, Indiana, Louisiana, Michigan, Nebraska, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Utah, Virginia, and Wyoming) confirms that responsible procreation is a vital state interest that is advanced by the traditional definition of marriage.



Professor Robert George of Princeton University, a presidential appointee to the United States Commission on Civil Rights and former Judicial Fellow at the U.S. Supreme Court, addresses the relationship between law and morality in his brief found here.
