The Hounds are a band of poor Canadian musicians, hurtling across America in a beat-up Dodge van, perpetually hustling to make it - by booking shows, self-promotion, getting paid and getting to the next gig on time. Along the way they will encounter strange locals, odd venues, bad road food, cheap drugs and the occasional groupie - all with an understanding that the whole machine could fall apart at any moment.
Think of character based road films like Down By Law, The Last Detail and Bottle Rocket. Not as broad or wistful as Blues Brothers, Spinal Tap, or Almost Famous; The Hounds is less about glamor and music than it is about the mechanics and minor details of do it yourself independent touring.
The show is rife with character, misadventure and grit BUT this is something entirely different than the current crop of one up obsessed, gag a second comedies - this is crafted, insightful, cinematic storytelling contained inside a comedy show - more along the lines of raw series such as Louie CK's Louie, Lena Dunham's Girls and Danny McBride's Eastbound & Down. We set out to capture the often hilarious reality of road life with its small triumphs, big defeats, van malfunctions, drug escapades, one night stands and mundane routine.
This is an independent TV pilot produced in Oklahoma City by a crackerjack team of filmmakers who made time between menial soulsuck jobs to write a script, raise money, assemble a cast and crew and make this pilot on their own time/own dime. This is a labor of love that we are pitching as a network series. The Hounds has the potential to be one of the greatest shows in an era of great shows.
Watch our show. It's a goddamn gem. « less
