Local Puppet Seeks Second Opportunity after Rejection from “American Idol” Judges
Oklahoma City – March 22, 2013
Oklahoma Christian University alumna Halie Hilburn recently appeared on Fox network’s “American Idol” with her ventriloquist puppet, Oscar. After being shunned by “American Idol” judges, Oscar embarked on a solo career as OzCar, the rapping puppet.
In some follow-up “Idol” footage, the “American Idol” puppet was thrown in a trashcan on an Oklahoma City street. OzCar performed at several venues in the city for a short time until he was approached by an undisclosed local who offered to produce the puppet’s first music video.
OzCar is now on a path to international celebrity. The puppet’s debut single features a stream of jibes at the “Idol” judges, and it also explains his ambitions.
“I’m trying to get in touch with Halie through my music,” said the puppet. “I plan to be on the west coast by summer, where it’s easier to network.”
OzCar plans to audition for the popular NBC program “America’s Got Talent” this fall. The puppet has no plans to reconnect with Idol, saying he wants to operate on his own terms.
