It is no secret that I originally created Radio First Termer in Saigon in 1971 because of the death of my roommate and good friend Jim Brookshire back in Phan Rang..... but it should also be noted, that I was inspired by Bob Hope’s relentless determination to make any personal sacrifice of time, money or being with family..... to give the troops a laugh and some entertainment to make them feel appreciated, loved, respected and missed.
Bob Hope passed away on July 27, 2003. Upon hearing this, I cried. A soldier’s true defender and friend was gone forever. Someone once asked me in an interview a few years ago if I wanted to walk in Bob Hope’s shoes in my efforts to entertain the troops. I replied, “I’d just be honored to carry them”. I have now dedicated my Home Page to the memory and the legend of my hero, my mentor..... Bob Hope. « less
