Space Knife is an American rock band formed in the late 1970s by Bruce Knife. The quintet became known on the New York City club scene for their unique performances and innovative sound. Their musical style came to Bruce in a dream and combines elements of rock, pop, post-pop, funk, punk, post-punk, metal, jewish, rock, electronic, and avant-garde.
Despite achieving very limited commercial success, Space Knife became a driving force in the the New Wave movement. They are believed to be the first band to play a full set of music completely submerged within a working aquarium.
The original line-up split in the mid 1980s after a series of internal legal battles. Bruce regained all rights and tailored Space Knife as a solo act for himself. The new group has toured over half a dozen states and more than one continent.
BRUCE KNIFE is a musician, producer, teacher, author, visual artist, choreographer, and small business owner. He continues to write and produce music under the Space Knife name. He also co-manages a Dippin' Dots Ice Cream franchise with his brother just outside of Ithaca, New York.
