Paycheck Fairness Act FAIL
When politicians do something you don't like, there's something you can do about it. From the comfort of your desk.
- Oh Erin Gibson. Marry me.
- Awww was that Rose making an appearance? xx Love it!
- Women are born communists.
- If women were really paid less for the same work, why would anyone ever hire a man? If greedy corporations are only interested in profit, what better way to make profit than hiring a completely female work-force and paying less for the same output? Same goes for racial pay gaps. If these discriminatory pay-scales are truly so pervasive, why do white men have jobs at all since they clearly cost more for the same output (supposedly) and thus mean less profit? The reality is that if you compare the wages of never-been-married/never-had-children women to men, there's virtually no difference. The overall "wage gap" is completely explainable by the fact that marriage and children generally affect women differently than men. Choosing to take time off (or even a "break" to raise kids until pre-school age), and then statistically skewing more towards part-time/reduced-time work while the kids are growing up will retard your career advancement and this is a choice many women make, as is their right. The result is that they do not have the same career-development once they get married/have children that men do and thus are paid accordingly. In other words, a man or a woman who's been working for 10 years straight is indeed more valuable to company than a woman who took 3 years off and then left at 3:30pm 2-3 days a week for the next two years in that same 10 year span. Again, look at single women without kids. Statistically they make the same as men. There's no conspiracy of sexist business owners keeping women underpaid. It's simply a result of different life choices that seem to be made statistically among gender-lines. Again, if women were really being underpaid simply due to their sex, then the sexist employer is pissing away profit by ever hiring men. Individual managers may be sexist, but boards of directors and shareholders ultimately value profit and aren't going to indulge sexism at the expense of profits. There's no need for a law (a threat of violence against those who don't obey) when simple profit-motive proves the boogie-man as "unequal pay for equal work" is a myth. BTW, this is not a defense of GOP Senators, who are all scum. Strictly an attack on the bill, and the fallacious economic reasoning behind it.
- Funny
- Hey funny or die, I'll tell you the same thing I tell the right wingers. Saying "{opposite party} sucks" is not a philosophy! Stop perpetuating the left vs right paradigm!
- It's sad how many women married to Republican men fully comply and support all Republican agenda's blindly...mostly out of fear that they'll have affairs if they don't.
- the end was the funniest part.
- Anyone DUMB enough to believe this liberal garbage needs mental help! A whiny sl/ut wanted free birth control and didn't want to pay $9.99 a month for it at Walmart. So instead if the nanny state government of Husein Obozo doesn't supply it to you free, it is being "restricted" by Republicans? Are you liberal demonrats retarded? The real "war on women" is being waged by democrats, bill maher and his ilk, and obama who supports his women slandering! Another lie is that Mitt Romney wants to abolish Planned Parenthood. He does not. He simply said he wants to cut government funding for it. Govt. funding is about 2%, so big deal. You can keep killing your babies like the evil withces you are, just not on the taxpayer's dime!
- Again, this requires critical analysis which seems to be in short supply here. Studies show that women make less primarily because they don't negotiate. They start their first job on what was offered, which men never do, and it multiplies. It's not as if employers target women to pay them less. You get what you negotiate.
- You should ask obama why women in the white house make 17% less than men. and women working on his campaign make substantially less than the men working on his campaign, imagine that....
- This goes all the way down to masculinity and femininity. Women get paid less partially because they don't negotiate. Consider how girls are generally raised. Perhaps to be gentle, understanding, quiet - generally introverted traits. Boys are raised to be assertive, strong, loud (relatively speaking) - generally extroverted traits. The initiation of negotiation seems to me is an extrovert act. It is no surprise women, raised to be introverted, do not negotiate. (That's according to my observations anyways.) There are also matters of working fields. Men tend to work high-paying jobs and women lower-paying jobs. Think about the difference in pay between engineers and teachers. How about the "pink collar" jobs? Why do they pay less? High-paying jobs seem to favor masculine traits over feminine traits. Think about your lawyers and business executives. Men have head starts in these areas because they were raised to be masculine. Therefore, it is much easier for them to adapt, and thus, advance further in their respective careers. To a certain degree, I agree with Brian (the guy right below me). I do, however, think the problem is bigger than that. Sexism is very much part of our thinking and our culture. It's hard enough to get rid of racism. It's even harder to get rid of sexism. And I would like ya'll to think about working mothers. Is it fair for women to be the ones giving up their jobs to take care of children? Why aren't there expectations on men to do the same? Is it really a case of women being better nurturers? Are gender roles separate but "equal"? Keep in mind those are nothing more than observations. I haven't worked in the "real world" so I couldn't provide an accurate explanation. Just my two cents.
- If you do the same work then you should get paid the same, it is common sense, but Repubs think women should be back in the kitchen, barefoot and pregnant, look at when they had a meeting about abortion, not one women in the meeting. How any woman would vote conservative is beyond me.
- Think about it when a couple gets married, " do you swear to honor and obey" that is not said to the man during the vows.
- Hilarious!
- Kate Beckinsale, I know she said something, but to me it sounded like, I want you, I really want you, please I really have to have you in my life....
- I'm rather political and should have an option but all I could think during that video was "damn that chick is sexy."
