  • I am hearing, but my sister is a sign language interpreter so I have spent a lot of time with people who are deaf. This video is ignorant and offensive. The movements and facial expressions used by interpreters isn't a joke, its someones language and culture your laughing at. So hurtful
  • I respectfully disagree Aerika. This is clearly a spoof about the dynamic between an expressionless mayor and an overly emphatic and slightly "urban" interpreter in the face of impending doom. It has been all over the news and talked about on over a hundred outlets. It does not make fun of deaf people or their culture.
  • I saw this when my partner (profoundly Deaf, of Deaf parents, and an ASL native) forwarded it to me. He thought it was hilarious. I thought it was actually pretty creative — the gestures for the most part did communicate what was being spoken. (In comparison, the Chelsea Handler video is just ridiculous and childish-looking.) I've seen some of the "debate" regarding this by Gallaudet students; some are outraged, others are more chill about it.
  • I am a Sign language interpeter and find this Hysterical!!!! The intent was to make us laugh and not laugh AT the Sign Language interpreter! Great job and say hi to Tia Lora for me!
