Taped live during her successful run at The Acme Theatre in Los Angeles, “Father of the Wrong Bride" is Andrea Sabesin's fifth webisode from her one woman show "Girl, Your Hair's On Fire! Season 2.”
Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue. Unlike most single gals, Andrea hasn’t had her fantasy wedding meticulously mapped out since she was a little girl. But what she does dream about is having her father walk her down the aisle. After years of internet dating, blind dates with “stupid jerkos” and countless wedding receptions endured minus a “plus one,” she fears that day will never come.
With her dad in town for a medical conference, Andrea can’t wait for the rare opportunity to indulge their shared love of martinis and to complain in his always-empathetic ear about her boyfriendless existence and dim prospects of finding a fiancé anytime soon. All hopes of “quality time” together are dashed when, just as they’re sitting down to dinner, he informs her that Cynthia – a work colleague and exotic, raven-haired, beauty with perfectly applied eyeliner – will be joining them.
Cynthia’s arrival is immediately met with the unexpected announcement of her recent engagement. Grasping for the cool comfort of her martini glass, Andrea smiles stiffly as the group toasts Cynthia’s betrothal and Seymour exuberantly raves about Cynthia’s upcoming nuptials.
But nothing (certainly not a single martini) prepares Andrea for the news she’s about to hear. Her father, the man she adores – whose birthday, sense of humor and skinny legs she shares – has inexplicably agreed to walk Cynthia down the aisle at her upcoming nuptials. AAAAAAAAh! Andrea silently screams. How could this be happening? Isn’t it a violation of matrimonial law? Thy father shalt not walk another down the aisle before walking down thy own? Yes, Andrea’s single. And no, there’s isn’t a guy in
her life even remotely ready to pop the question. But does that give Cynthia the right to usurp her precious, once-in-a-lifetime father/daughter aisle time? Something borrowed indeed!
LA Weekly says "Andrea Sabesin's one-woman show...is less like another one woman-show in Hollywood and more like hanging out with an exceptionally funny friend." For more info or to contact Andrea please go to http: //www.andreasabesin.com.
