If you want to make a Dora that appeals to older girls (8 - 12 year olds) then go ahead and give her a makeover with longer hair, I'm totally fine with that, but for god's sake keep her as the adventurous explorer she's supposed to be. Dora is supposed to teach about geography, about animals and nature, about other cultures and teach kids spanish. Dress her in a khaki outfit with hiking boots and give her a backpack and binoculars as accessories. She's not going to get far in those ballet slippers, tunic and leggins. What is she supposed to teach in that outfit? How to shop for the latest designer clothes, jewelry and makeup? What is she going to teach young girls? How to talk like a valley girl and how to use text message abbreviations? How to flirt with boys? We already have Barbie for that!
