Railin' Ron told me a crazy story in a bar a few years back about why they call Carl "The Caboose." Apparently, he used to transport endangered Lebanese children to safety by using a covertly disguised America train, reuniting them with their families in war-torn Lebanon during the 1982 war there. He was hailed as a hero and is regarded even today as one of the bravest men in history by their people. Oh and also, he's a HUGE butt pirate.
