24 HOUR FILM FEST PROJECT
-MAYBE?- GRAPHIC: ON AUGUST 9TH 2008 3 FILMMAKERS SET OUT TO CREATE THE PERFECT FILM. FLAWLESS IN EVERY WAY. 24 HOURS LATER THE FILM REMAINS UNFINISHED. THIS IS THEIR STORY.
APT ROOF. EXT- DAY.
SNAP a woman lights a match, as she raises it to light her cigarette. A man walks up behind her.
MAN
You know you shouldn't do that.
WOMAN
What's it to you?
MAN
We'll, first off your pregnant.
A wide shot of the two shows that the woman is clearly pregnant.
PRODUCER (O.S.)
CUT!
The camera pulls out and shows the directors, actors, and camera guy, it's just part of a film set. The director is looking around.
DIRECTOR
Who called cut? I'm the director I'm the only one who can call cut.
PRODUCER
When did you put this in? You can't have a pregnant woman smoking.
DIRECTOR
In the rules. It says that you need to strike a match.
PRODUCER
A match?
She looks down at what he's talking about, sighs.
PRODUCER
That's the action from last year.
The director looks on the producers sheet, and reads over it. He realizes she's right.
DIRECTOR (V.O)
It's just a minor set back. Will the film be perfect? I don't know. Maybe. I can tell you I was voted most promising director to come out of my class at Durvry tech.
CUT TO: Interview set up-
PRODUCER
No, I'm not worried. I've been planning this shoot for weeks. To win the competition you can't make any mistakes. This is just a minor set back.
The Producer is looking at her clipboard, worried.
DIRECTOR
Okay announcement people. Instead of carrying a match, she will now have a hammer.
DIRECTOR (V.O.)
The story is actually very touching. It's about a guy, James who leaves to go to Cost Guard training for two years, and when he he returns home his girlfriend is pregnant. So it's really a story about trust. You know did she cheat on him, why is she pregnant. It's pretty deep.
(THINKING OF AN ED WOOD MOMENT HERE. THINGS FALL DOWN AND HE KEEPS ON GOING. )
CUT TO: Apt. Roof top-
PRODUCER
I just don't think we have the same idea on the level of quality we want out of this film.
DIRECTOR
You're just on the business side of things. Don't worry about it.
PRODUCER
It just concerns me, when props are falling down in the frame.
CUT TO: Three quick clips of the Director screwing around on set. -
CUT TO: Interview room-
DIRECTOR
I'm dedicated to quality. I'm like the Dave Thomas of this set, but instead of making hamburgers, I make movies.
CUT TO: Set-
DIRECTOR
Cut! Alright Steve. We got it.
CAMERAMAN
No, I never started rolling. You said it was a rehearsal.
DIRECTOR
Alright, moving on.
CUT TO: Interview Room.
CAMERAMAN
I don't get it. I shot at least 3 scenes with out a tape in the camera. I told Jim and he didn't seem to worried about it. He didn't even care to reshoot the scenes.
CUT TO: Interview Set.
PRODUCER (V.O)
I'd fire the guy. But he's the only one with Final Cut Pro. That's the last time I'm hiring someone off of craigslist.
CUT TO: Set-
DIRECTOR
You know some people say I'm the Dane Cook of my generation...... God, I'm getting so hot.
ACTRESS
It's like 90˚ out here. Why are you wearing that suit.
DIRECTOR
Sam Ramai always wears a suit when he directs.
ACTRESS
The guy from Cheers?
The director shakes his head in disgust.
PRODUCER
Come on, we running two hours behind schedule right now.
CUT TO: Roof top-
ACTRESS
Steve, I have a confession. The babys yours.
ACTOR
How, I was gone.
ACTRESS
Before you left I froze one of your condoms. That's my secret. The babies yours.
ACTOR
You froze a condom? Wait I'm going to be a daddy?
The couple hugs and kisses.
The Director and the Cameraman are editing together.
DIRECTOR
Wow that's deep.
CAMERAMAN
Why the hell does she have a hammer?
DIRECTOR
You have to leave the hammer in, it's part of the contest.
CAMERAMAN
There's no reason a pregnant girl would have a hammer.
DIRECTOR (V.O)
Yeah, we had some setbacks, but now we're on deadline. We just had to set aside our differences.
CUT TO: Interview room with the director.
DIRECTOR
Is the film perfect, I don't know. Some might say it's something beyond that. This isn't just for some contest, this film will change the way people look at life. It's........
PRODUCER
Are you finished it's almost deadline.
DIRECTOR
You can't rush artistic expression. I got the perfect ending all I need is ten mor..............
