As for your “constitutional law professor” if you study the reason for the 2nd amendment it is not for hunting or protecting yourself from criminals, the primary reason for the second amendment is for the people to have a means of recourse should the government become corrupt or tyrannical. In regards to your comments about the gun issues I think you should have a look at Kennesaw GA and Morton Grove IL. TL;DR Kennesaw made a law requiring gun ownership for anyone who could afford to and was not a felon, mentally deficient, or a conscientious objector. The crime rate plummeted 74% in one year and an additional 49% the following year. To this day there hasn’t been a gun related murder, the economy has gotten much better due to low crime rates and it has been voted among the top 10 places to live in the country.
