Voice-over: Exclusive.
Jewel: So, Funny or Die called me
and they wanted me to dress
Jewel: up as somebody else, and have
me go to a karaoke bar and
Jewel: sing my own songs, and see if
people would recognize it as me.
Jewel: Going through the makeup
process was really fun.
Jewel: I got to wear a wig, and have a
big fake nose.
Jewel: This nose got bigger. And a
business suit, and kind of
Jewel: like a (unintelligible) suit.
I had a butt for the first
Jewel: time in my life. I'm pretty
excited about it.
Jewel: I had some business
associates with me.
Jewel: We had little laminates
that were from a frozen foods convention.
Jewel: When me and my fellow
associates got to the karaoke
Jewel: bar, it was a really unusual
place. They were taking their
Jewel: karaoke very seriously.
(Karaoke singing is going on)
Jewel: We really stood out.
Jewel: And then
one by one, my guys started
Jewel: getting up and singing
karaoke, and in the middle of
Jewel: it they'd yell out,
"Karen, you're next."
Karen, You're coming up next.
Get you up here Karen.
Karen, I'm looking at you.
Karen, get up here
and dance with us!
Jewel: And, it really wound the
crowd up, like they'd look at
Jewel: me and they're going
'Well, Karen, are you gonna get up
Jewel: there?' and I'd be like,
'I don't want to.'
Karen, Karen, Karen!
(the crowd is chanting Karen)
Karen to the stage,
please, Karen.
Jewel: I could tell people were kind
of pulling for me. I could
Jewel: tell they knew I was nervous,
and they kind of were wanting
Jewel: me to do good.
(the crowd is cheering her on)
Jewel: You guys, I don't want to do this.
Jewel: (singing) People living their lives
for you on T.V.
Jewel: They say they're better than
you and you agree
Jewel: He says "Hold my calls from behind
those cold brick walls"
Jewel: Says "Come here boys, there
ain't nothing for free"
She sounds like Jewel.
Jewel: (singing) Who will save your soul
Jewel: When it comes to the flowers now
Jewel: They're really pulling for Karen,
like Karen was going to make
it out of frozen foods. (Laughs)
(Jewel is still singing)
(Jewel continues to sing
with the crowd reacting)
Male: At first when I saw her
sitting with three people, I
said, well, you know, she was
kind of homely looking, but
then when she started
singing, God!
She's so sexy, how
she's dancing!
Announcer: Should we have her sing
another Jewel song?
(Crowd cheers.)
Announcer: Yes, yeah, I think
we should.
It is the first time
that there's ever been an
encore here.
That was pretty um, pretty
off the charts there.
Has to be in the Gas Light hall of fame.
Jewel: (singing) Well in case you
failed to notice,
Jewel: In case you
failed to see,
Jewel: This is my heart bleeding
before you,
Jewel: This is me down on my knees,
Jewel: These foolish games are
tearing me apart,
Every person was like
'Wow, that girl is really good.
She shouldn't be here.'
She had a really good voice.
In all honesty, I
really want to hear
her sing again.
I just thought she had been a
professional, but they told
me she only sings at
Christmas parties.
Jewel: (singing) And your thoughtless words are breaking my heart
Are you serious right now?
Oh, my God.
(Jewel is still singing)
(crowd cheers)
(Jewel is cracking up)
I mean, it didn't matter,
with a voice like that,
it doesn't matter how pretty you are. You can be
an ugly girl with a voice like that,
you'll get laid all the time.
Jewel: And then we decided when I
got off stage to go get out
Jewel: of my prosthetics --
take the nose off, take the wig off --
Jewel: and I came back in, and they
introduced me as
Jewel: Jewel, and I got up and sang.
Please welcome to
the stage, Jewel!
(Crowd cheers)
Jewel: (singing) Hear the clock, it's 6 a.m.
Jewel: I feel so far from where I've been
Jewel: I got my eggs, I got my pancakes too
Jewel: I got my maple syrup, everything but you
Jewel: It was sweet. I mean, the
whole bar was singing along.
Jewel: (singing) Dreams last so long,
Jewel: even after you're gone
Jewel: I know that you love me
And soon you will see,
Jewel: It's neat that I wrote a song
when I was 18, and here we
Jewel: are years later, and like the
whole bar and karaoke kids
are all singing it.
Everybody knew all the words.
It was really sweet.
Jewel: (singing) You were meant for me
And I was meant for you
Jewel: Thank you guys.
Karen, Karen Karen...!
Interviewer: So, did you see when she
was in there as Karen,
when she sang first?
Wha... Oh my gosh!
Interviewer: She was there as Karen the whole night.
Interviewer: That was all a set up. Everyone that she was
with those were all actors.
I was duped.
I don't want to tell Jewel,
but the girl that was singing
her song may have actually
been slightly better.
Karen was actually Jewel.
We put a fake nose on her and
glasses and a wig, and, and...
Wow! You guys are (bleep) geniuses.
Wow! It was the same
person. Oh.
Great. I'm glad you
had a good time.
Incredible. Wow.
Thank you.
Good night.
