PRESS RELEASE : 2007-09-28
The Scranton-based production company Agapic Films has just overseen the shooting of
its first film entitled ‘Gentleman Jack’. Agapic Films was founded earlier this year by
local producers Joseph Van Wie III and Brian McAndrew. Timothy Calpin, also a
Scranton native, wrote and directed the short, which stars Van Wie, Dustin Charles and
Rose D ‘Azzo. Calpin garnered success early in 2007 after co-writing a screenplay
‘Assassination Of A High School President’, which was purchased and produced by the
Yari Film Group. ‘Assassination’ is slated for major release in April 2008.
Set to the backdrop of two different guys trying to pick up the same girl in a bar,
‘Gentleman Jack’ is a dark comedy that poses the question ‘Do true ladies and gentlemen
still exist in the world today?’ Shot between the dates September 12th through September
15th, the project is a short film that will have a run time of approximately ten minutes.
According to the creative forces behind the film, the project’s purpose is threefold. Firstly,
the film can be used as a marketing tool to attract future producers and filmmakers to
shoot projects in Scranton and utilize the city’s resources. Secondly, ‘Gentleman Jack’
can be used by Agapic Films as an example of the quality work the company is capable
of producting. This too will aid in drawing more film business toward the community.
Thirdly, Mr. Calpin will be able to use the film as a calling card for future directorial
opportunities. « less
