Chris Gethard: Oh shit.
Chris Gethard: Shhhit.
Chris Gethard: Shit.
- [JUDD] Chris.
- [CHRIS] Yeah.
- Hey-hey.
- Chris?
Chris Gethard: Hey Judd.
How are you man?
Judd Apatow: Oh, taking a break.
I'm so tired.
Chris Gethard: Oh, that's rough.
I'm in a real bad head space myself--
Judd Apatow: [JUDD] We're doing three
TV shows right now.
- Yeah.
- And, you know, three is like clearly,
at least one to many.
Judd Apatow: Do you know how many of the shows
that we had you guest on any of those?
Chris Gethard: No, I've auditioned, I think, between--
somewhere between 6 and 10 times,
Chris Gethard: but I never
actually got one.
Judd Apatow: I think, you know,
this whole peek television thing--
Judd Apatow: Anytime I mention something,
somebody gives me a show with a green-light,
Judd Apatow: you know, and the next thing
you know you've got this
Judd Apatow: massive slate,
and you have no time for yourself.
Judd Apatow: I haven't gotten to the
Hawaii condo at all this year.
Chris Gethard: I'm in a pretty bad spot
too, yeah.
Chris Gethard: I just got cut out
of the new Ghostbusters.
Chris Gethard: I got cut from
The Dictator as well.
- Really?
- I got cut from Iron Man 3.
Judd Apatow: It seems like a lot of the best
people in town are cutting you out.
Judd Apatow: So I mean, all it takes is for
one person not to cut you out,
Judd Apatow: for things to start
falling together.
Judd Apatow: I got my daughter out of several films,
and she was not happy about it.
Chris Gethard: We all got
problems man.
Judd Apatow: Let me ask
you a question.
Judd Apatow: Do you think it's weird to
fly your kids private
Judd Apatow: if you're not on the plane with them,
just to like get them back from somewhere?
Chris Gethard: I'm just going to put this on the table,
very respectfully if you don't mind,
Chris Gethard: but I think our problems are
maybe like a little different.
Chris Gethard: I am a guy who doesn't
really have much going on.
Chris Gethard: Like everyone I know
has gone successful,
Chris Gethard: and I'm still hanging
on in New York,
Chris Gethard: and I see a shrink and
she's kind of nuts,
Chris Gethard: and for a while I wasn't
seeing a shrink,
Chris Gethard: but I kept falling into
these very bad spots where
Chris Gethard: I was putting myself in danger,
and sure I can look back on it,
Chris Gethard: and some of them are funny now,
but you know, I just kind of fight
Chris Gethard: everyday to keep my head on straight,
and keep myself healthy.
Judd Apatow: That actually sounds
like a TV show.
- Yeah.
- I've never seen that before.
- Yeah, yeah.
Judd Apatow: Feels weird, because I wouldn't
really want to make money
Judd Apatow: off of you, because then I wouldn't
know if you liked me as a friend,
Judd Apatow: like are you being nice,
because I can give you a job
Judd Apatow:
Chris Gethard: Yeah, that's cool.
I don't see why we would work
with each other, you know,
Chris Gethard: I can just work some of my other
non-friend based connections in the industry.
Chris Gethard: Yeah.
Judd Apatow: Why don't we do this
as an off Broadway thing?
Judd Apatow: Then at least I won't
make any money off of it,
Judd Apatow: and we could
stay friends.
Chris Gethard: Yeah, that's not a money
making venture from what I hear.
Judd Apatow: You could do something
really creative, really thoughtful,
- hilarious, dramatic--
- You know like, gut it out,
Chris Gethard: and put it up on some small stage,
and no one will really make
much money out of it,
Chris Gethard: but artistically maybe it can get
embraced specifically in New York,
Chris Gethard: which is the only place
where I already have anything
resembling a foothold.
Judd Apatow: Yeah.
And you know what we do?
Judd Apatow: We call it Career Suicide.
Chris Gethard: I think might be
taken by a Canadian heavy metal band,
Chris Gethard: but we could get
Judd Apatow: Wait a second.
I know some people that
could help us.
Judd Apatow: Do you know the
director Kimberly Senior?
Judd Apatow: She is fantastic.
She did Disgraced.
Chris Gethard: That won a Pulitzer right?
Judd Apatow: Yeah, yeah. She's fantastic,
and she does not mind working
for nothing like you.
Chris Gethard: Cool.
- Chris, can I ask you a question?
- Yeah.
Judd Apatow: If you're not home,
and the gardeners are at your house
Judd Apatow: are you comfortable
having the garage open?
- Can I ask you a question?
- Yeah.
Chris Gethard: You know [stammering]
when you're in a situation
Chris Gethard: where you have a wife,
and she's a very special person,
Chris Gethard: and you don't feel great,
Chris Gethard: how do you [stammering]
keep her?
Chris Gethard: How do you keep your
loved ones loving you?
Judd Apatow: Okay, we'll talk later.
