Mes Baskets Rouges (The Red Road)

Description: Jeff Wortman's and Amelia Loh's take on a bizarre true story of unintentional genocide. A Japanese detective (Andre Mauger) is sent to a hospital in Russia during the winter of 1976 to solve a series of mysterious deaths occurring in one bed. Filmed in superb 4:3 pixels, this Melb Uni classic deserves a return to the cinematic spotlight. With a cast led by the always-mesmerising Marc Testart (Dr Yevgener Barushnikov), and wonderful cinematography by Nick Barlow, using none of those distracting hand-held techniques so often pervading lesser thriller movies of the time.
