  • Here's the deal. Louis Seekay is selling something, the open question is who's buying. So CK does what many, many other "comedians" have done over time - find a target and throw stones. Some people call this funny - but most people find this "humor" actually pretty uncomfortable. They look around and see others hesitantly laughing and they do too. For many this is "humor' that makes them feel better about themselves by putting down others. That's old news in the human condition. Sorta the more aggressive equivalent of why men RAPE women (YES... I SAID THAT!). So "Reeeee-tard" jokes are somehow funny. Like Louis Seekay puking on Sarah Palin's handicapped child. Somehow, that makes some people feel better about themselves. Beats me, but I don't fantasize about holding women down and hurting them. I fantasize about kicking guys asses who do that... but that's another matter. So Louis Seekay picks on Sarah Palin.... an easy target as Tiny Fey opened that door nicely. He excuses his behavior because she is (as he says) "Hitler". OK, and so picking on her is "fun" because she is "hitler". What a load of CRAP. Who is buying? What does he know of Sarah Palin? Not Jack that's what. And if she was Hitler, frankly I don't think there's a damned thing "funny" about talking about wanting your father to be lewd with her. Lewd with Hitler. Not only is it unfunny... it's frankly strange (to be mild). In any event, she is clearly not in or near the level of "Hitler" for crying out loud. That's obviously an excuse for him to justify some odd and seriously stupid talk which he sells to whoever will buy it. Cuz that's what he sells. SO I See there's plenty of people who are buying. They too justify their snickers buy regurgitating the anti Palin hype "I'd move to Russia if Palin was my wife". Right. Another guy who doesn't know jack about Sarah Palin but assumes he would ditch her after assuming somehow he might be married to her? What? Look, buy all you want of what Seekay is selling. Put it in a pipe and smoke it for all I care, but got goodness sake, don't think you're going to pretend that it's intelligent... God knows it's not funny no matter how many times you say it. REE-TARD jokes and base coarse language jokes for adolescent boys, sneaking their daddy's porn mags is what it is. That is what Seekay is selling - call it what you want, that's what he's selling. The only question is, who is buying?

  • The Hopkins premise is that he can see "the light" whereas everyone else is seeing a twisted and nebulous version of anti-truth. It's not a particularly compelling case because he is demonstrably telling everyone that he understands everything about this, with no room for discussion or no mention of the possibility that he might be missing some of the writing (and context) that is on the wall. In his world, no one sees things as clearly as him. Eventually, Hopkins conflates what Louie Ck does with rape, which is a shaky analogy at best and which all but undermines the premise of reason that he forcefully projects as his standard m.o. He also divines that Tina Fey somehow opened the door to mock Sarah Palin, seemingly ignoring the idea that any public figure who presents contradictory empirical evidence as to who he/she is and to what he/she presents herself as is inherently mockable and besides that point, I can virtually guarantee you that both Stewart & Colbert beat Fey to that punch. Surely anyone who can look at Sarah Palin, even a hardcore conservative, and not notice ANY inconsistency is either not trying hard or is so convinced of her veracity that no constructive criticism can ever exist within the world of their heroine-worship and devotion. it might just be my personal theory, and unlike Hopkins, I realize "I" could be wrong, but I think the so-called lewd references to Palin and CK's father is more a take on Freudian absurdism and what rambles inside the mind of a drunk and how twitter and technology can now front us all out as the partially insane people that we are. Sure, Palin took the brunt of this joke stew , but she has demonstrated that she herself isn't above character assassination, although she never delivers it with nearly the muting side dishes of irony and sillyness that accompany the work of humorists and satirists like CK. The Hitler references are not everyone's cup of tea, but what I believe Hopkins is missing here is that Louie Ck is not calling her Hitler because she has somehow matched the totality of his misdeeds (of course, she has not), but because Palin has shown some similar of the talents that are needed to rally particularly needy people; a fact that is perhaps best demonstrated by her misuse of the words "death panel" which all but mobilized and inspired thousands of ill-informed people to hate something they didn't understand. Besides that, Technically, CK is likening Palin to a "seminal" Hitler and for Hopkins to fail to either notice this, or to willfully fail to point this particular context out similarly undermines his posit. But where I really believe loses most people is in how presents himself as the policeman of comedy and as the man who can and should determine what is and what isn't funny. That's something no man should ever try to do because it assumes he is a God, and as we know, a God would not make such elemental mistakes in cognitive reasoning. Furthermore, God would be a far better prosthelytizer than Hopkins, who apparently has nothing to convert anyone a single person to his viewpoint, suggesting he might be better off sticking to those people who either love him unconditionally or who share his intuited viewpoint and are willing to work backwards logically to support it.

Plenty of regular folk in our own personal lives make this mistake all the time. Should we nail them all to the cross? I love me some CK, because the dude wears his heart on his sleeve and puts it all out there - the good, the bad, & the ugly. I applaud that and I'll buy that. It's my hypothetical money, isn't it?

  • Louis CK is an arrogant, self-serving, narcissistic, insensitive, asshole who loves his children. On the other hand he turns the human condition inside out and reveals, it seems, like thousands of peoples' most horrible thoughts (which he seems to have) and actually deflates them by verbalizing them. I like that idea but on the other hand taking a pill for obsessive thoughts might mean a drastic career change.
