Have any of you non-Americans tried watching ANYTHING online relating to a U.S. network or cable show before? The rules suck, but in reality they make sense. If a local network (like here in Canada, for instance, with HBO Canada and The Comedy Network) has spent a load of money on broadcast rights for a television show, they ALSO have online broadcast rights for that show. Allowing non-U.S. visitors to watch on U.S. websites would undermine the sale of that show to other countries' networks.

HBO could potentially be sued for breach of contract by the networks they sold the show to if they allowed non-U.S. viewing. I believe it's a dumb rule, and that instead the networks should use their country IP-testers to just display ads from/for the rights-holders in that country, but as things stand right now that isn't the case (and likely never will be).
