Insane Drifts...Gone Wrong!

Drifting has become more than just a motorsport; it’s become an art-form, a way of life and a damn good way of ruining your dad’s car. From its birth in the mountains of Japan, to the modern day drift champions, drifting has basically kept to the same recipe: add power, reduce weight, use handbrake. It sounds ridiculously simple, but as these videos show, when it goes wrong, it goes horribly wrong.

Before we start, this video is definitely worth a watch but do yourself a favour and click mute. Now, to the video; it’s a lovely piece, you’ve got it all – ice, young drivers, some slush and a distinct lack of talent. Sounds like the perfect opportunity to drift, doesn’t it?

Look at this guy; he’s doing well, making all the right noises, drifting his way round this tricky track with hundreds of spectators. The pressure is mounting; his driving has become a little sporadic, so how best to combat the failings of your drifting skill?

That’s right, be cocky and arrogant enough to step out of your car – while it’s doing donuts – and… well, you’ll have to watch the video to find out.

It’s hard to work out if this bunch of ‘enthusiasts’ are performing a legal drifting competition on one of Britain’s roundabouts, but legalities aside, none of them are very good, are they? Just a few moments in and you see an awful attempt at some oversteer action with a BMW that doesn’t have matching alloys. Come-on boys, sort it out!

Oh dear, it seems the love of drifting has bedding itself so deep into some people’s consciousness that they think they can drift a front-wheel-drive Toyota without crashing. The speed this guy comes in at is frankly asking for trouble – and you’ll be pleased to know, subsequent trouble is delivered.

Don’t ask why there’s gunfire in this video, but it does go to show that combining the art of drifting and the noise of gunfire just doesn’t work. The video is worth watching for the first 15 seconds, but it’s a great 15 seconds, as this driver decides – after a monumental drifting fail – to hide his failure by performing a rubbish donut.

Any video with the title ‘Chav drifting gone wrong’ is worthy of a thumbs up, but when the video shows one of the stupidly timed, poorly executed and downright idiotic drift attempts, you realise just how epic this vid is. Take a look and bask in the chav’s superb ability to ruin everyone’s day.

This guy’s done well, in fairness. He’s picked one of the cheapest drift cars you can buy, it’s rear-wheel-drive and he’s chosen a quiet neighbourhood to attempt some oversteer action. One problem, though: there was a big tree.

At this point you’ll have noticed a lot of these insane drift crashes have been in FWD cars – so people, if you want to drift, don’t use a car designed for space and room. This is another bad ‘en because you just know this guy has ruined his rear suspension. Damn those curbs!

It’s wet, it’s soaking, it’s bloody torrential - so what do you do? You drift, obviously. This driver’s awful blue LED lights under his car make you wonder if he’s a bit of a boy racer, but when his talent deserts him for a few moments, that wonder becomes solidified.

Fail!
