Jann Karam…is a stand-up comedian, writer and actor whose numerous T.V. credits include stand-up appearances on LATE SHOW WITH DAVID LETTERMAN and THE TONIGHT SHOW WITH JOHNNY CARSON, and was chosen as the only woman to appear on HBO's YOUNG COMEDIAN’S SHOW WITH DENNIS MILLER. Jann has had guest-starring roles on countless television shows including, Seinfeld—she played Sandy, Jerry’s girlfriend who wouldn’t laugh—POLITICALLY INCORRECT, NORM, MAD ABOUT YOU, DR. KATZ and, in addition, was a regular cast member on many T.V. series including the last incarnation of THE CAROL BURNETT SHOW.
Jann wrote, directed, and starred in Castle Rock produced, festival-award winning film, UNDER THE BIG MUU-MUU, a funny, touching look at mother-daughter relationships, and regularly performs, in Los Angeles theatres, her critically acclaimed solo show RECLINING NUDE BY THE HOLLYWOOD FREEWAY, a humorous, touching narrative about a Superior girl’s happy-ish adventures in life, love and finding a place to lie down…Jann has just completed a book of humorous—based on the solo show--RECLINING NUDE ON A CACTUS PILLOW.
She’s a contributing writer to HUFFINGTON POST, winner of LA COMEDY AWARD for Celebrity Achievement and has recently released her stand-up comedy album, SAME GUY, DIFFERENT SHIRT.
While attending college at Arizona State University--where she graduated cum laude--Jann began doing open mic nights at a Mexican food restaurant. Her payment was one chimichanga per joke. After developing her act and gaining 10 lbs, Jann moved to CHICAGO where she performed regularly at Zanies and studied at Second City with Del Close.
Jann continued her professional stand-up career in New York City where she immediately became a regular at CATCH A RISING STAR. She’s a Meisner trained actor, she studied with Sandy and his disciples in the West Indies, New York and LA. She’s performed on countless Las Vegas stages including the MGM Grand and Caesar’s Palace, and works regularly at the Laugh Factory and the World Famous Improv in Hollywood. She grew up in the small mining town of Superior, Arizona and currently resides in Los Angeles with her slightly chubby and adorable, black cat KITTY. « less
