When AIDS started hitting the gay community hard in SF in the late 70s (though nobody knew what it was yet), the city took the opportunity to close the city's bathhouses. The Folsom St Fair was begun as a celebration of gay culture, but it quickly became an S&M / leather fair, attended by both gay and straight people to this day. The Folsom St Fair is in no way a "gay pride celebration". Are we clear?
