Nice thread, but it was really tough. I just based mine on what really hit me as a kid and what I have the best laughing memories for. HBO was my friend in the 80s.

My picks are:

Better Off Dead Parenthood Coming to America Airplane Revenge of the Nerds

Can I say that I had “Better Off Dead” on VHS, and my friends and I watched that movie over and over again…...like 50 or so times! I think I still have it somewhere…

Since I agree with most people’s movies, I’ll add…

HISTORY OF THE WORLD PART I (Mel Brooks) GHOSTBUSTERS (can’t believe this wasn’t listed yet) SPLASH (John Candy’s best side man gig) REAL GENIUS (any movie with a guy living in a closet can’t be bad) QUICK CHANGE (an underrated Bill Murray performance)

An unsung hero of writing for 80’s comedies is writer PAT PROFT who worked on the original POLICE SQUAD series, then all the NAKED GUN movies, also worked on POLICE ACADEMY, BACHELOR PARTY, and the aforementioned REAL GENIUS.

Newbie here; can’t help but respond to this post:

Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life This is Spinal Tap Dirty Rotten Scoundrels Pee Wee’s Big Adventure Raising Arizona

...are the only ones from the 80s that just never get old for me. I love ‘Annie Hall’ best, but that was three years too early…

Three Amigos… five times. My parents had to buy the movie multiple times on VHS cause I watched it so much. I find this movie to be like the 80’s. You either love em, or hate em and the people who love em.

YES! Three Amigos is such a good choice! Trading Places, superb. Coming to America! Ha! “Defend yourself you sweat from a baboon’s balls!” classic! Naked Gun of course and Spinal Tap genius, genius, genius!

Ok Uncle Buck for sure, if only for the mole comment that still makes me laugh, i’m gonna get corny with licence to drive – just reminds me of good times, ferris bueller’s day off – wishing i had done something like that, Parenthood cause i wanted parents like that. And finally Big – cause i feel like a 12 year old stuck in a 21 year olds body who is actually 26.

How could I forget Weird Science? That was one of the best movies ever made. Also, we totally forgot Airplane 1 & 2. I don’t want to hear shit about how the second one wasn’t as good as the first one. Not hearing it.
