I had a sighting last week of comedy. It was in a sedan with Matt Leblanc heading to Vegas. Word is… it was drunk and not in a good place.

Feature films..people are actually getting off their derrieres and paying to see new comedies. The folks who run this site are a big part of that resurgence…I could say more but I don’t want to be accused of being too much of a suck up..

I think the obcession with reality series says something about our society and how we are entertained, but I don’t know exactly what. We are amused by making fun of others? Bashing others decisions/actions/ass in a bikini is rewarding to a lot of people. I’d love to say we are intrigued by the philosophies of reality TV stars and the dynamics of relationships…But it seems people just want to say, “Hell, my comb-over is better than Trump’s!”

The smallest screen(web) does a lot too because people a little sharper than 6th grade level(where a lot of TV is targeted) are reaching out.

That’s neat about more comedy coming to the Big Screen, but instead of the media revolution being HD, like I was taught it would in school, it’s web and device video, like what is here.

My concern is that it all is getting so watered down with everyone having the tools that it will be even worse than what cable did for TV. There will be no way to make a living at it. The “heyday” of TV is over, too many competing stations and other media. I love the viral thing, but is it really profitable? For more than like 10 people on the planet, several of whom are on here? We’ll see.

In regards to our ever growing fascination with reality TV, I think it’s the same as rubbernecking in traffic: Everyone loves a good trainwreck. As far as the internet watering down quality with an absurd amount of quantity: everything is watered down these days. Even during this writer’s strike there about a hundred shows that are absolutely horrible airing daily. Movie-wise, all you have to do is walk into a Blockbuster and be bombarded by straight to video National Lampoon/ American Pie trash to notice that the pickings are slim. But the important thing is to keep searching. If you find only two or three little nuggets of comedy on this site a day, enjoy them and move on. They may be the funniest things you see all day.

also, the last time I saw comedy, it was getting on the 4:15 train to Kalamazoo.

short answer: it’s going in two directions: god-effing-awful pandering horse$#!t for the idiot masses, and the other being hyper-reflexive concise absurdism for the informed. It’s always been like this, but the rift is growing ever larger. oh, farts and boners are funny too.

i’m with buddyboy. comedy is what WE make it. as artists and as consumers. and we do it in this genre better than most, because there is no ‘pitch correction’ to make you funny, no sample tracks to disguise lack of talent, and guest artists will only take you so far (are you listening HUMAN GIANT). so it’s rare that a truly un-funny person makes it being funny. even carrot-top has made me laugh til shit comes out my nose (actually he does that anytime i see him, he looks like the pippi longstocking and a gerbil made a baby in a jar and then gave it HGH and tons of plastic surgery, seriously, check him out and tell me if i’m wrong). don’t get me wrong, there are exceptions, but for the most part, you can’t fake funny. and funny can be so many things that with the right motivation, and a certain natural talent, you can make a niche for yourself doing just about anything and sometimes it just catches on (like that guy who does bits from between a woman’s legs, or will farrell playing characters in movies that could have come from a jeff foxworthy bit, and yet which of them is the most famous comic in the country at the moment and whose hosting the second worst show on fox). that was a lot of rambling and i’m sorry. i will begin my flagellation.

I think it is heading in the same direction as music is! They will let anybody do stand up comedy, probably even a deaf mute, no offense meant! Just like anybody can rap or sing that candy cane pop music bullshit! Mass quanity is replacing quality which bites ass!

I think comedy has gone thru lots of changes, all the way back to the days of silent radio.
