Okay, it’s easy to pick who the best are, so howz about some comedians who seem to be well-loved and respected, but JUST AIN’T FUNNY?

Obviously, Dane Cook has to be #1 on my list. I’m a guy who finds a lot of weird or odd stuff funny, but I just don’t get him or his repetitive humor. Yet the guy’s selling out Madison Square Garden and similar venues. Makes no sense to me . . . .

Overrated #2 would be Martin Lawrence. Never have I heard a funny word uttered from his mouth. Ever.

Bill Cosby comes in at #3 on my list. Here’s a case of taking oneself too seriously. “The Cos” apparently feels that telling long, drawn-out stories while making guttural sounds and rolling his eyeballs translates into funny. The only time Cosby was remotely funny was when Eddie Murphy was mimicking him in “Delirious”.

Don’t think the ladies are left out. #4? Joan Rivers. Plain not funny.

And what has to be the most obvious? My #5, Robin Williams. Mork just prances around grabbing himself and apeaking a stream of consciousness that bores me after a few minutes. But a ticket to a night of standup with Mrs. Doubtfire is quite a valuable commodity.

Who else?

Bill Cosby isn’t funny anymore, so nobody really says he is funny now, but back in the day, of course he was. Eddie Murphy, same thing. That’s my opinion.

i can’t believe the first post would call out martin lawrence- arguable one of the greatest comedians of our time. do you remember when he pulled a gun out in the middle of ventura boulevard? HILARIOUS. Black Knight was pretty awesome as well. i’m also pretty distressed to see fallen greats like eddie “pluto nash” murhpy, woody “touched that little girl” allen and sam “i’m DEAD!” kinison on this page. for shame. they belong on a list of “5 Greatest Done Before Their Time” comedians.

have to disagree with you on Eddie Murphy and Sam Kinison, During the time frame that they were doing standup I thought they were both hilarious.

Woody Allen? SUCKS, the guy could EASILY be all 5 on the list for me

ok, but i’m curious, what makes you think kinison was over-rated?

The guy was on a run—work wise before he died and was getting pretty mainstream…But the guy died before he really had a chance to be considered over-rated

lol, I agree with you about the angry ranting, funny thing was that was what I liked about the guy, hard to believe he was a baptist minister at one point in time…

sam kinison was considered for the role of al bundy once upon a time- thank god that didn’t happen. according to the show’s wiki, michael richards was also once up for the part. that would have screwed up television in the 90’s in more ways than 1. it would have been 2. 2 ways.

no kidding, I didn’t know that at all, I don’t think they could have possibly found a better Al than Ed O’Neil.

The guy was the epitome of the unhappily married beaten man.

Makes you wonder who else was considered for some of the main roles…Peggy? Kelly? Marcy? Bud? Buck the dog….

the real head scratcher is let’s say that michael richards was al…that almost would have guaranteed the show would suck. married with children was the reason the fox network got off the ground, so there’s a solid chance it would have gone the way of the xfl. no simpsons and no arrested development leap to mind as big casualties. also, if michael richards got the role he probably wouldn’t have been cast as kramer and seinfeld may have arguably failed- a classic series gone early and then we’d have no curb! it was truly fate
