Has anyone else had a video that just won’t upload? I have tried 15 times of the last five days. I got that crazy ajax error a few times, but mostly I get the “encoding failed” error. I have tried re-exporting the video making it smaller and larger, I have tried different computers, PCs and Macs, I have tried everything. Anyone have any suggestions?

There’s gotta be an answer to this. So I’m bumping it up to the top of the list.

Share the entire errors verbatum and any numbers. EXACTLY like it shows up. Tell us how you are encoding, what format are you encoding with what settings from what editing application to what encoder? Or maybe you are just exporting from your editing app, if so, what settings for export?

Need WAY more info…

Oh, and run operating system updates. In case it’s a web2.0 scripting update you need. Not sure if it’s relevant but you might get lucky.

Ok, first let me thank you for responding to my post. I am sorry it took me so long to respond to your responce. I am pretty sure I figured out the ajax error, it said that when the laptop I was trying to upload from went in the standby and shut off its hard drive. I only got that error from laptops. But if I do get all the way uploaded, I still get encoding failed. I doubt it is system updates, because I have tried to upload from so many different computers. Also I uploaded all my previous videos from the same computers. I am using premiere pro 1.5 exporting to a quicktime container using the m-peg 4 codec. Just like I have with my other videos. The only difference with this one is that part of it was on VHS a long time ago. But I catpured it the same way I did my other stuff. Using premiere and the DV AVI setting. Everything is DV AVI until I export. I have tried making the exported file all different sizes. It has been from 160mb to 250mb and none of them have encoded. What other info can I give you that might help?

Tests to try…

Have you tried to upload some old video that uploaded before to make sure it is not a change in your system? You can just remove it after you do the test.

And then create a new video without the VHS content and upload, can be just a couple of crappy clips, just a test. To see if your system is encoding differently, like something updated and other components are no longer compatible.

You did try updating your quicktime, right? And I still would update one system because the web 2.0 scripting might require an update to your Premiere Pro. or m-peg 4 codec.

And maybe screw around with interlacing settings on the version with VHS content, or even on importing the VHS content.

That’s just some stuff I would look at but I dunno…. I’d be interested to see if any of these tests told you anything.

Oh, and the error VERBATUM please…

Ok so I exported it to .avi instead of .mov. It looks worse, but at this point I don’t care. I uploaded and now get Uploaded and Validated in my upload log. Its been like that for alomst 18 hours. Now whats going on? I test uploaded something else and it worked. Is this video just not meant to be seen?

Do the updates on at least one machine!

Was your test with an old video, or a new one you just edited? Make sure you create something NEW and try to upload. Try with and without the VHS content.

Try reimporting that VHS content in case it was corrupt. And look at interlacing settings when you import and export.

I did the updates and the test upload was something new. Whats up with the “uploaded and validated” being on my log for over 24 hours now?

Ok for whatever reason, it finally worked. Who knows how the Funnyordie gods work, they finally smiled upon me. Might as well check out, since we talked about it so much. http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/b87d6dbffa
