I cannot dispute any film that Adam put on this list. They are all gems. That having been said, I have put together an auxiliary list that if watched, might make you say to yourself, "Wait a minute...I'm glad I watched these before I died, as well!"

Agreed with "Sound of Music" but must quibble with "nationalism" point. Movie was extremely pro-nationalism (pro-Austrian). The Captain was motivated by a deeply conservative, nationalist nostalgia for old Austria, and his sense of "creativity" was to embrace the classic Austrian cultural touchstones, like the waltz and "Eddelweis".
