Dan's Blog: Jacksons 101
Things I learned from the ABC Mini Series, "Jacksons: An American Dream", which I recently rewatched for the first time since 1992.
1. Their father did what?!?!?!?
2. Marlon Jackson could not dance. So much that his father threatened to whip him because of it. I think the phrase he used was, "Marlon, go get me a switch". Basically, Joseph Jackson was a catch phrase genius. Most quoted line of '92. And now '08.
3. Marlon Jackson is the Jackson that no one can remember. Probably because he can't dance.
4. Michael Jackson loved candy. In fact, his father threatened to whip him because "all he ever thought about was candy." This is vital information. You don't get this stuff from the liner notes of Thriller, which I assume details his love of tigers and Paul McCartney.
5. Terrence Howard's middle name is "Dashon". Again, vital info. I read his autobiography titled "I Swear, I've Been Acting For Years. I Just Wasn't Good Until 2003". Not once was there ever a mention of his middle name. Some editor at Penguin Books fucked up big time.
6. Janet Jackson did not exist.
7. I've said it before and I'll say it again. Billy Dee Williams should have been the actor of his generation. Imagine - if things had gone properly, we'd be singing the praises of his performance in Tootsie, while the guy that did land the role would be pitching Colt 45.
8. Did you know Billy Dee Williams's first wife was named Teruko Nakagami?*
9. Billy Dee Williams loves Asians.**
*Info not from the movie.
**Definitely true.
