Dan's Blog: Kids Today
The dumpster outside my apartment reads “Do Not Play On or Around Lid”.
I have a feeling the Dumpster Companies are overestimating children’s interest in garbage and/or garbage storage.
At some level, I understand the “don’t play ON” part. A safety precaution for audacious fat kids living on the edge. But what kids are having this conversation:
Kid 1: You wanna play video games?
Kid 2: I thought you were cool.
Kid 1: You wanna play baseball?
Kid 2: What are you, some sort of retard?
Kid 1: There’s a dumpster behind the building.
Kid 2: Now we’re talking. But I’d prefer if we only played in its vicinity. I just want to know it’s there.
(By the way, that’s how kids talk these days. They often use words like “retard”, “vicinity” and “talking”)
