Washington DC- Analysts agree that the size of the Black Caucus is going to be bigger than ever this year and no one seems to be more poised to take advantage of the situation than Sen. Ted Cruz, reports the Fox News Network.
Ted Cruz has always maintained that the Black Caucus was likely going to be his key to success this election and that he’s been dreaming about the Black Caucus since early 2013. “This huge Black Caucus took me by surprise,” said the Senator earlier this week at his campaign headquarters. “Since our win in Iowa, I’m confident I can grab this Black Caucus and ride it all the way to the White House,” he said enthusiastically.
Unlike his GOP rival Donald Trump, Cruz has embraced the Black Caucus and considers its allegiance necessary if he has any hopes of winning many blue states. From only 9 members in 1969, the Black Caucus has grown impressively and now holds considerable power. In 1994, GOP hopeful Bob Dole was choked by the Black Caucus in his bid to win his party’s nomination only to concede. Dole’s inability to take advantage of the Black Caucus is viewed by many to be the biggest political blunder of his career.
The 2016 election will prove to be a bitter fight as November inches closer, and experts suggest that turning one’s back to the Black Caucus could be painful for GOP hopefuls. While others have made it less of a priority to do so, Cruz has let it be known that he will bend over backwards for the Black Caucus and time will tell whether it’s support will bring him the votes he needs.
