"The Not Ready for Prime Time Players"

... Nothing has so beautifully reminded me of how freakishly history repeats itself more than watching the 1st and 2nd Seasons of SNL.  (Now available beautifully restored on DVD.)  It is an especially subliminally poignant and comedic experience for those of us who came into existence in the 1970's...  (1978 here.)   ... in this "essential" DVD set (for any decent DVD addict) ...here we are refreshed with the spontenaity and sloopiness of saturday-late-night live television in its infancy... before anyone was really paying attention...  the candor and craziness of the blunt '70's pun-iness is enchanting and seriously out of control in its hilariousness...

... the comedic genious of this pioneering-sketch-comedy experiement is exemplified by the foreshadowing of many great comedy moments to come... the seeds of what would become the "Blues Brothers," "The Muppets," and the imfamous "Mr. Bill" all take root in those seasons...

... Chevy falling down... Jim belting the blues, to the ground if necessary... Gilda gives her opinion... The Muppets tell dirty jokes... Dan plays Elliot Ness... Beat-niks... Lorne Michaels puts up $3000 to reunite THE BEATLES... Jane, Garret and Lorraine... all so gifted and so funny.... This set is a must-see for comedy-history buffs, and SNL fans alike...

... if the current socio-political climate is getting you down, take some time to breathe, watch these DVD's and come the the zen realization that nothing new has really taken place under the sun... ...ITS ALL HAPPENED BEFORE, but at least we can sit back and laugh at it.
