October 2008 Funny Or Die Employee of the Month

Working for a comedy video website is neither as easy nor as glamorous as many may think it is. Rusty Dopkins, Funny or Die’s October Employee of the Month, knows this all too well. From reception to mail to timesheet responsibilities Rusty is willing to do whatever it takes to please the staff. Whether it’s inflating Chris Henchy’s overtime to make up for weekend gambling losses or dressing in a cat costume to film a “home video” about a piano playing feline, Rusty consistently exceeds all expectations. When a third of Ferrell’s pension ended up invested in mortgage backed securities it was Rusty who convinced his dad the credit market would turn around and had him buy Ferrell’s investments. When McKay’s weekend trips to Bakersfield started to look increasingly suspect it was Rusty who told the staff that it had nothing to do with bootlegging and everything to do with McKay’s invalid Aunt Helen. To make sure the rating system on the page stays honest it’s Rusty who double and triple checks the Funny or Die meter on every video. As a consequence Rusty has not lived away from his cubicle in close to a year, but that doesn’t stop him from greeting the rest of the staff with energy and enthusiasm as they file in for work every afternoon. Also, ever since McKay forced him to throw out his page a day “You Might Be a Redneck If…” calendar or risk McKay garroting him with fishhooks, Rusty has been incapable of keeping track of time.

Rusty attended Santa Monica College for two years before transferring to Cal State Dominguez Hills (Go Toro’s!) When not securing reservations for the rest of the FOD Team at Les Deux Rusty enjoys fantasy baseball and Dancing with the Stars. Rusty was also the first Funny or Die employee to qualify for Funny or Die's health care plan, which includes a first aid kit, two different kinds of Tylenol and some Nyquil.

Proof of Rusty’s commitment to his co-workers is Rusty’s Rides. Founded by Lauren, Rusty’s Rides allows anybody at any time anywhere too drunk to drive to call Rusty and get a lift home. Although initially reticent to the idea Rusty soon embraced it with the warmth and welcoming he has embraced every task that no one else wants to do and is forced on to him.

In honor of Rusty’s exemplary achievements he will be awarded a $10 gift certificate to Elephant Bar and half off any merchandise from the Funny or Die store.

As Ayn Rand once said “Achieving life is not the equivalent of avoiding death.”

Way to go Rusty!
