Today in “being an immigrant is incredibly horrible” news, 500 immigrants are feared dead off the coast of Malta after human traffickers rammed their boat.
According to the AP, the Syrian, Palestinian, Egyptian and Sudanese immigrants were on a boat bound for Italy when a dispute arose with a group of human traffickers who wanted to transfer them to a smaller boat. When the migrants refused, the traffickers rammed their boat with a second boat and sank it.
Not only is that incredibly evil, it also seems bad for business. Migrants are traffickers’ customers. I, for example, would not get in a taxi if I knew the driver had a habit of throwing his passengers in the Mediterranean Sea. But I prefer to ride my bike anyway. I’m American and it’s great.
