Every week HISTORY presents “Join Or Die with Craig Ferguson” and a panel of various esteemed guests, historians, and most likely a comedian or two to pit the greatest and sometimes worst characters in history against each other to see who is the king of their particular domain. This week: GREATEST POLITICAL BLUNDER.
This week Craig was joined by Jimmy Kimmel, Jen D’Angelo, and Howard Bragman to dive into the seedy underbelly of American politics and decide once and for all:WHAT WAS AMERICA’S BIGGEST POLITICAL BLUNDER. And it’s got everything you would expect from the American political system: guns, sex, lies, and a pizza king. Of course they had to limit it to America because if they included the whole world’s political blunders everything would be about France.
Who is responsible for the biggest political blunder of all time? Let’s meet our finalists:
Rod BlagojevichThe man impeached for corruption not seen from an Illinois politician since the Governor directly before him.
Larry CraigThe congressman who was adamantly against gay rights until he was caught soliciting gay sex in an airport bathroom, which led to him courageously coming out. Sorry didn’t finish the sentence. Coming out more against gay rights.
Eliot SpitzerThe Governor of New York who was caught soliciting hookers on a wiretap he helped create to crack down on prostitution. He is also the very definition of irony.
Christine O'DonnellThe Tea Party activist who was almost elected to the Delaware Senate, but then offhandedly admitted that she used to dabble in witchcraft. Which, in witching terms, Avada Kedavra’d her campaign.
Dick CheneyThe nation’s vice president. Who then shot his friend in the face.Twice. There is no joke that can top this.
Herman CainThe presidential candidate and Godfathers Pizza CEO who was accused of being a philandering womanizer who treated women with less respect than Godfather’s Pizza treats your stomach.
The fight is on! Let’s discuss, who holds biggest political blunder of all time.
Christine O’Donnell had to defend herself to the American people that even though she dabbled in witchcraft, she herself was not a witch. But how can the American people be sure?
What about Herman Cain and his constant sexual-harassment allegations? How big of a blunder is his sex romp really? Couldn’t we see this coming?
All of these were fine blunders, but it comes down to Larry Craig, who was adamantly against homosexuality and then was caught soliciting gay sex, and Eliot Spitzer, who came down hard on prostitution and then was caught with a prostitute.
Tough competition, but we have to crown a victor somehow … And the winner, as voted by the audience:
Congratulations Eliot Spitzer on winning the biggest Political Blunder! And apologies to Eliot Spitzer for winning biggest political blunder.
