"Once I saw the response to my recipe, I knew that me and my ants were here to stay."

Just when we thought the food scene in NYC couldn’t get any more exciting the shop that we’ve been dreaming of comes along. Fresh off the opening of Cookie Do, a cafe in Manhattan that sells safe-to-eat raw cookie dough, comes Ants But Dead and Served Like It’s Ice Cream, a cute little cafe that sells mashed up dead ants in scoops. Uhh YUM!
“The idea just kind of came to me” said CEO and store owner Maude Eckers, “Cupcakes seemed played out, rainbow bagels have come and gone, I was thinking ‘What’s the next crazy NYC food craze that we need?’ and then I saw my nephew Max guzzling ants he had collected in a jar and I thought ‘Bingo!’”
The secret behind the mashed ant scoops at Maude’s store is the mashing process. Chefs take loves of sugar bread to the Prospect Park, leave them on the ground, bag the bread once it’s covered in ants, take it back to the shop, absolutely obliterate it with raid, pulverize the ants with whatever blunt instrument is nearby, and collect the product in giant vats ready for consumption!
“It’s always been my dream to have my own shop in New York” said Eckers, “and once I saw the response to my recipe, I knew that me and my ants were here to stay.”
