George Zimmerman smiles widely after seeing so many white faces in jury pool.

SANFORD, FL (Chafed News) – As the jury selection for the second-degree murder trial of George Zimmerman crawls along, attorneys on both sides look to quicken the pace and finalize the six jurors, plus four alternates, who will ultimately decide the fate of the Florida neighborhood watch volunteer accused of murdering teen Trayvon Martin.

“Jury selections in a trial of this magnitude have been known to take quite a while,” said Zimmerman’s lead attorney, Mark O’Mara to reporters on the steps of the Sanford, Florida courthouse.  “We need to make sure the jurors in this case have not been tainted by media coverage.  We also need to make sure they are ignorant, white, gun owning republicans who believe George (Zimmerman) did the right thing by shooting that child (Trayvon Martin) in cold blood.  Finding just the right jurors who meet all these criteria will take days if not weeks and we anticipated as much coming into the trial.”  O’Mara went on to say, “When George (Zimmerman) and I walk into the courtroom and saw all those white faces in that jury pool, I thought this was gonna be a slam dunk.  But, as it turned out, the potential jurors weren’t exactly what we’re looking for.  I guess it’s just harder than expected to find really ignorant people, which comes as a bit of a surprise considering this trial is taking place in Florida.”

Jury selection for this case will continue tomorrow when attorneys on both sides are expected to continue questioning the potential jurors.
