Hi Folks, Cynthia here again with another installment of my Dave Matthews Fan Fiction. This one is called “Backstage Pass”.

I peek out at the crowd from my vantage point on the side of the stage. I can feel the positive energy and overwhelming love for Dave emanating from each member of the crowd. The same overwhelming love I feel for Dave.

He’s chatting with the crowd, telling them about this great latte he ordered and how it makes him think about how much caffeine he drinks. “Too much!” he laughs. The crowd (and I) laugh too: it’s a reference to his song, “Too Much”, the beginning notes of which begin to waft from his band. He turns, looks at me, his eyes twinkling.

“I love you” he sings. My heart races. Are these lyrics to the song or is he talking to me, in front of everyone?! He winks -- it’s for me. It’s all for me.

I melt!

As the final fiddle part in “Too Much” fades out, the crowd is dizzy with excitement. So am I. Thinking of the soft feel of Dave’s guitar-callused hands making their way over my body as we nuzzled earlier that day in his tour bus. Dave begins to narrate...

“Thank you, thank you. I just want to take a moment to share a story with you. Of when I Crashed--”

The audience knows this is a reference to his song, Crash,--

“-- Ha! You know I’m talking about the song ‘Crash’... I wanted to tell you about who that song is about. Cynthia! Come out here!” He beckons me out.

I melt! I have stage fright, but I come out. I’m wearing low-slung, light-colored dungarees and a cute blouse. The cheering crowd roars as I come out.

“This song is about you, Cynthia. Lost for you, I’m so lost. FOR YOU!” He pulls me into an embrace.  Dave’s band plays the tune and the audience serenades us as we slow dance, Dave nuzzling me.

We make love.
