Perhaps you remember the duet of "Little Drummer Boy" sang by Bing Crosby and David Bowie, performed for Crosby's 1977 television special, Bing Crosby's Merrie Olde Christmas? The odd pairing and even stranger banter between the two before they sang has made the clip a classic.

Funny or Die remade the video, shot for shot, using Will Ferrell to play David Bowie's part and John C. Reilly as Bing Crosby. Although the video was shot this past Wednesday in Van Nuys, California, Owen Burke, a creative executive at Ferrell’s Gary Sanchez Productions and frequent Funny or Die contributor, came up with idea two years ago.  “I've wanted to remake this video since I first saw it as a kid. I was obsessed with it,” says Burke.  “It is literally my favorite holiday song. I pitched the idea two years ago and because of scheduling I could never get it done. It couldn't have come out any better. It is truly a Christmas miracle.  P.S. Even after hearing the song a million times while prepping and shooting the video, it is still my favorite.”

Set designer Aaron Johnson did an amazing job of mirroring the set from the original Crosby/Bowie video.  Almost everything, from the fabric draping over the piano, to the entry columns (made out of Crayola’s Model Magic), to the window detail, is a near perfect match.  Special self-adhesive lead had to be flown in from England to match the piping on the original windows, and believe it or not, it was more cost efficient to buy real Christmas trees than to rent fake ones.  While prepping for the shoot, every shop Johnson and his crew went into, they kept hearing “Little Drummer Boy,” on the radio.

And lastly --- here’s a fascinating fact about the sweater John C. Reilly is wearing: it’s an import from London, and it’s really called the "Bing Crosby Bowie Sky Blue Cardigan,” by Slazenger brand.
