So many of us grew up watching The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, laughing along at the antics of Will and his adopted family. But some time has passed and those innocent days have faded away. And when you break down the storylines, the show was pretty dark.

Here's a run down of the most depressing aspects:

1. Will has no father and a mother who only sees him once a year despite being related to a wealthy, Bel-Air family.
2. Hilary's fiance dies when proposing to her.
3. Despite all his charisma, Will has one friend: a possibly-handicapped vagrant with a medical problem in which is he is unable let sunlight into his eyes.

4. Carlton spends his entire life dreaming of going to Princeton, only to attend a local, state university.
5. Will dominates the high school basketball world, draining shots from half-court and attracting scouts from all over the nation, only to attend the same college as Carlton. His basketball aspirations long gone, he is forced to bus tables at the student center.
6. Nicky suffers from a pituitary gland disorder, prompting him to grow uncontrollably.

7. Uncle Phil employs a servant.
8. Uncle Phil's servant regularly emasculates him in front of his family.
9. Will gets shot, realizes his own mortality, prompting him to rush into marriage. When he finally second guesses it, his estranged mother marries his fiance's father, ruining any glimmer of hope for his relationship.
10. Despite being a successful television personality, Hilary has emotional dependency issues that result in her being unable to move out of her parent's home.
11. Uncle Phil has a heart attack, yet his family continues to make fat jokes at his expense.

Okay, that's it for now. I'm sure there's plenty more, considering how disturbing this show really was.

  • your forgetting the time he father came to visit only to let him down again.
  • well, when you put it like that...it makes the show seem more depressing and sad
  • Funny
  • how about the fact that Aunt Viv turned into a totally different person and no one said a word about it
  • I recall an episode where Carlton took speed or something that he mistook for aspirin in Will's locker. One of those very special episodes.
  • wow for real...still funny,mayb funnier now
  • What about when Geoffrey dates the heiress only to have her disappear and never be spoken of ever again?
  • Oscar, actually that was jazz who said that. he also was the only one to mention that nicky got so old.
  • it was like when geoffrey's son came to visit him just to scam him lmao! '.'
  • Reading this has messed up my childhood reality of this show. Now, I must go and play russian roulette.
  • 218 people have that not-so-fresh feeling.
  • The "servant" had to flee England due to a national scandal in which he cheated in a marathon by taking a taxi to the finish line
  • My personal theory was that the entire show was the rambling delirium of a beaten and broken Will Smith, left brain damaged after that big dude stomped the crap out of him on the basketball court.
  • I am kinda not surprised, Rich folk can be freaky.
  • it was a comedy, not alot of tham make alot of sense...look @ Archie Bunker!!!!
  • I like how this was uploaded by Cory Matthews.
  • He wasn't just rich. He was nigger rich.
  • Very good!
  • You forgot the premise. Will got roughed up by some guys in Philly and his mom made him move in with Phil and Viv in Bel Air. Rough stuff. It's in the theme song.
  • How about when Will was seduced by his girlriend's mother.....Pam Grier!!!
  • I agree about the speed episode.. that really was pretty terrible. Fresh Prince went deep into the bummerrrr zone with that one.
  • How about when Will comes 2 minutes away from marrying some chick for the sole purpose of sleeping with her?
  • Never thought about it this way
  • How about when he goes back to Philly for vacation, finds that all the guys who whooped his ass in the intro have all grown up and repented, and decides to stay. Then in the very next episode the network execs show up, shove the contract for the show in his face, shove him in the back of a white van, and take him back to Bel Air against his wishes. episodes 99 and 100.
  • Kill me, kill me now.
