My mother set them both up
I met my friend Trevor when I was seven years old through my Mother. He became one of my go to playdate friends for many years. I also met the woman I went out on the date with through my mother.
Started the date with some light Garfield talk
Since we were at the Olive Garden I decided to get us a “Lasagna Classico” to start.Obviously this order led to a nice conversation about my favorite cartoon cat.The original idea was to split the dish but unfortunately the woman said she wasn’t “crazy about lasagna”. Luckily for her, I am.
Spent about 15 minutes throwing up on myself
Between eating the entire Lasagna dish/drinks/nerves combination, my stomach was feeling quite uneasy. I did not want to be rude and leave the lady alone at the table so I just demanded that the waiter bring me a bib and a trash can. The woman insisted I go to the bathroom but I told her “no”.
Talked about Garfield more
Initially this conversation started with us talking about our families. The woman mentioned that her Father OD’ed when she was young. This reminded me of Garfield’s friend ‘Odie’ so I immediately started talking about Garfield again. I also told her how happy I was that I still have my father around.
I was hit
Trevor always used to hit me when we were having a playdate, usually because I would play with his toys. My mother always used to tell me that it is “disrespectful” to take something that was not mine. The woman I went out on a date with hit me and told me that I was “disrespectful” to speak about her dead father that way.
We got into slightly more in depth Garfield talk
The woman I went on the date with started talking about how her brother Jon was coming soon to pick her up and that he wanted to have a word with me. She also insinuated that this might mean trouble for me. This reminded me of Garfield’s owner Jon Arbuckle and how he always scolded Garfield. Garfield was always in trouble for one thing or another. At this point I had a belly full of lasagna and red wine.
My friend Trevor was there
After a few drinks I began to realize the similarities between my date with this woman and my playdates with my friend Trevor so I decided to give him a call. I had not spoken to him in quite some time but I had him come down to catch up. At this point the woman had left so I have Trevor take her seat. We banged our fists on the table and demanded more lasagna.
