It really ain’t what it used to be.
“Well the times they are'a changing.”- Bob Dylan
I look around and I feel like a stranger in my own town. It seems that the kids are gettin’ younger, the lights are gettin’ brighter, and the women are gettin’ taller. I’ve been a cityman all my life, but my God, I can’t even recognize the skyline anymore.
The buildings I used to love are being replaced by massive real estate developments. To make matters worse, my favorite coffee shop is now a bank and my favorite bank is now a Chipotle. This city is changing. I can feel it in the air.
On an unrelated note, I may be on the wrong train– I rushed to the train station this morning after my alarm failed to go off. I was kind of groggy, and by the time I got to the station, I saw a train pulling up and I just assumed it was my train. The conductor said “All aboard this train!"which is exactly what the conductor on my regular train says, so it could still be the right train.
Either way, this goddamn city ain’t what it once was. I barely even recognize this place.
