We all know someone who does stupid stuff.  We probably all know someone who does really stupid stuff.  But how many of us know people that do things that are so stupid they make the stoner slacker kids from high school look smart?  I do, I do.  Case in point.  I have a friend who is going through a divorce.  She immediately moves in with her boyfriend who has no job, no money, and hasn't applied for any jobs.  She went from a two income family to a one income house where she doesn't bring home a whole lot of money, yet she buys him anything he seems to want.  She is currently so broke she can't pay attention.  Nothing against broke people.  We've all been there at some time or another.  I know I have.  But I didn't make the situation even worse on myself.  Her checking account is all tore up and she is in the hole by at least $500.  I get a call on Tuesday asking if she can borrow $30 so she can get gas, and she'll pay me back today.  Since she's a good friend, I agree and give her $40.  This is ALL the money they have mind you.  She fills up her car, and has $16 left.  They have very little food, and no milk right now.  One would assume they would use it wisely.  I hear from her on Wednesday night and they are drinking beer, smoking, and eating ice cream.  I guess the ice cream passes as milk since it's all in the same food group.  But a pint of ice cream costs as much as a half gallon of milk these days.  Damn!  I let it go, figuring it's their money since they have to pay me back.  Yesterday (Thursday), I get an excited call from her.  When I ask what's up, she tells me she bought her boyfriend A BRAND NEW COMPUTER!  Oh my shit girl!  What are you thinking????    A computer?  That's soooo necessary.  Especially when you don't have the internet and your check to the phone company was returned unpaid.  Strategic move.  I'm in the hole and it's tight, so let's dig it deeper so I can have some more room...  I am litterally floored.  When I ask where they bought it, it was from a rent-to-own place.  Hell No!  By the time she finishes paying for that thing, she will have spent $8000 on a computer she could have saved for and bought at Wal-Mart for $400.  And it will be obsolete if they even manage to keep the payments up.  If I was ever so broke I had to borrow money, I ate Ramen noodles and didn't buy anything that was not remotely related to sustaining my life.  Let alone a computer.  All of this makes me wonder who is more stupid; her or me for loaning her money.
