On Thursday, Hilary Clinton will testify before the House Select Committee on Bengazhi. She’s expected to face a series of difficult questions regarding the September 11, 2012 attack, as well as her very public personal email situation. Grandma’s Boy is a 2006 American comedy stoner film produced by Adam Sandler’s production company, Happy Madison.
Here’s everything you need to know about both the hearing and the film.
On the night of Sept. 11, 2012, terrorists overran a U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya.
Five House committees and two Senate committees each launched separate probes with a particular focus. Also, an independent Accountability Review Board examined internal problems at the State Department, with an emphasis on diplomatic security.
Grandma’s Boy was released in theaters on January 6, 2006 and was rated R for drug use, strong language, and nudity.
Ahmed Abu Khattala of Libya, an extremist militia leader, was captured by special forces on June 15, 2014 and has been charged with murder. He is currently awaiting trial in the United States.
When he and his roommate can’t pay their rent, video game creator Alex (Allen Covert) finds himself homeless and moves in with Lilly (Doris Roberts), his wacky grandmother. Lilly and her elderly pals like to hang out in front of the television all day, but their constant presence puts a damper on Alex’s social life and pot smoking. Alex wants to court coworker Samantha (Linda Cardellini), but he’s preoccupied by a rivalry with another game designer, so the would-be relationship is in limbo.
More than three years later, the search continues for evidence that the U.S. government also bears partial responsibility.
Grandma’s Boy received a score of just 16% on Rotten Tomatoes with critics calling it a “gross-out comedy that’s more gross than comedic,” adding ”Grandma’s Boy is lazy and unrewarding.“
SO MANY QUESTIONS
The committee’s fourth public hearing is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Once again, Clinton is expected to field questions about the situation in Libya before, during, and after Sept. 11, 2012, as well as the administration’s response to the attacks.
Filming for Grandma’s Boy took place in Los Angeles at L.A. Center Studios and other locations throughout the area.
Clinton will be sworn in, although it hasn’t been decided whether or not that will happen in public.
Each of the panel’s 12 members will have 10 minutes to question Clinton. The hearing is expected to last at least eight hours.
Grandma’s Boy has since made well over $50 million in DVD sales, but barely grossed $6 million in its original theatrical release.
Regarding Clinton’s private emails, the panel’s top Republican, Mike Pompeo, said he cares “only to the extent that they relate to Libya and Benghazi.”
Clinton could still face questions about her server, as the committee has yet to receive all the documents requested from the State Department.
“We’re going to make sure that the record is complete,“ Pompeo said.
In the opening sequence, the line “you’re a hooker” was an ad-lib of Adam Sandler suggested on the day of shooting.
“I’ve already testified about Benghazi … I don’t know that I have very much to add,” Clinton said at the CNN debate, adding that she’ll do her “best” to field questions.
The video game featured in the movie Demonik (2006) was an actual video game planned for release on the Xbox 360. However, the project was canceled when the production company Majesco Entertainment ran into financial troubles.
Questions remain about Clinton’s private email server — the security of which is still under investigation by the FBI. A recent CBS/New York Times poll found that six in ten registered voters are mostly dissatisfied with Clinton’s explanation of why she used her own private server.
On Sep. 29, House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., suggested the panel’s probe was responsible for Clinton’s declining presidential poll numbers.
Last Wednesday, Rep. Richard Hanna, R-NY, said in an interview that the committee “was designed to go after” Clinton.
Democrats were quick to pounce on the remarks. Clinton’s campaign even used McCarthy’s comments in its first national television ad.
The committee’s work doesn’t end with Clinton. The panel, which will continue conducting interviews, is tasked with publishing a report on its findings about the attacks, drawn from interviews with Clinton and dozens of other individuals. That report is expected to be completed sometime in 2016.
Here are few of the most memorable quotes from Grandma’s Boy, a film which has a total run time of 94 minutes.
Grace: I once gave Charlie Chaplin a handjob.
Jeff: Wow, was he silent?
Grace: Not after I got through with him.
Grandma Lilly: [after drinking pot tea] I can hear my … hair growing. You want some soup?
Dante: I’ll smoke it with ya bro, we’ll go to the loony bin together. I don’t give a fuck.
Jeff: This chick’s pussy smelled like the great depression.
Alex: Where is your monkey?
Dante: He’s upstairs putting his nunchucks away.
J.P.: Adios, turd nuggets.
Four Americans were killed in Benghazi — Ambassador Christopher Stevens, State Department information management officer Sean Smith, and CIA contractors Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty.
