Forget about the oppressive heat of the summer, the annoying snow in the winter and the soggy days of spring: fall is a time when the air is crisp, the leaves are colorful, and society begins anew. Don’t take my word for it, though. Here are four facets about fall that make it the best season of the year.

SPORTS: Remember sitting at home any given weekend, and turning on the TV only to find nothing’s on? Well that changes in the fall, since there’s so much football coverage, it’s enough for any sane person to start dreaming of Drew Brees. Of course some games are better than others, but what does it matter? I prefer catching college matches more than NFL ones, since college football shows young athletes in their heyday- and before the brain damage sets in and they start racking up a criminal record. Baseball also gets exciting during the fall; I know it can be confusing seeing ‘baseball’ and ‘exciting’ in the same sentence, so you’ll just have to trust me on that one.

NEW TV: Speaking of watching TV, this is the time of year when the big networks roll out their new shows and pray that they can combat dipping ratings due to video games and the internet (if the cat flushing a toilet Youtube video was on TV, it would be number one every week). Networks are pulling out all the stops, including having Ashton Kutcher (the Clark Gable of our generation) replace Charlie Sheen on Two and a Half Men, and giving Tim Allen a show again (I think he was just jealous because Richard Karn’s been having more exposure lately hosting Family Feud). The one downside about getting into a brand new TV show is that, odds are you are the only one watching and it will be canceled after a few episodes.

COMFORTABLE WEATHER: During the summer, there are some days when you walk outside and immediately start sweating more than Arnold Schwarzenegger awaiting the results of a paternity test. Fall is a prime time to venture outside and not feel like passing out from heat exhaustion. Here’s a fun fall game: take out all of the warmer clothes you haven’t worn since March and see if they still fit.

FALL FOOD: Apple pie, candy corn and a bunch of other tasty treats are only available during the fall, so eat all you can before they go away for yet another year. Who cares if candy corn isn’t ‘technically’ a vegetable, or that apple pies are filled with sugar and carbs- enjoy everything,  and just watch your weight come November… it’s not like there’s a holiday devoted to eating coming up! Oh, wait…
