Need info on video editing software

Dear Fellow FoD Friends,

I want to start making videos, but I'm in need of some information on VIDEO EDITING SOFTWARE.  There seems to be many different software programs on the market.  I'm looking to purchase some software for under $100.00 that is simple to use, gives me versatility and performance. 

Basically, I'm looking for any info on my best purchasing options.  If any of you can help out, it would be greatly appreciated.
