Earlier this week New York City took a break from the hustle and bustle to watch something unusual: a young man scaling up the side of Trump Tower on 5th avenue using suction cups.

The inevitable first reaction from most was to ask, “Why?”

As we watched the feed live from our office, the local news coverage quickly quipped that the climber was most likely a “Democrat” and that this was some sort of anti-Trump protest.

Later, a video appearing to have been uploaded to YouTube the day before from the climber, known as “Steve From Virginia,"revealed that in fact this was a pro-Trump act. That video:

But is that the real reason that Steve From Virginia attempted this ascent?

Could the real reason be that, in fact, Steve was protesting not Trump, but the Funny Or Die parody film of Trump’s 1980s business book, Funny Or Die Presents: The Art Of The Deal: The Movie? The trailer for that film if you haven’t seen it:

Not convinced there is a connection? Consider the following evidence:

The timing: the Trump Tower climb happened in August 2016, the same month Funny Or Die Presents: The Art Of The Deal: The Movie is now available on Netflix

The timing seems like a little bit more than just a coincidence, no?

On August 1st of this year, Funny Or Die Presents: The Art Of The Deal: The Movie joined the larger family of outstanding programing available to stream on Netflix. A mere nine days later, Steve From Virginia climbed Trump Tower to get his attention. There was something he wanted to tell Mr. Trump. Was he going to tell Trump to not log into Netflix lest he accidentally watch the parody film and see Johnny Depp’s impression of him and have his thin-skin chaffed too close to the upcoming election?

Face disguises: extensive make up vs hooded sweatshirt

In Steve From Virginia’s YouTube video, he mentions that he is looking off to the side and wearing a hoodie in order to obscure his true identity, a mask if you will. In the same way, Johnny Depp had to wear a considerable amount of face make-up to complete the transformation to appear like Trump:

Trump sucks

Steve From Virginia used suction cups to climb up the windowed walls of Trump Tower, and Donald Trump sucks. That’s something, right?

Umm, both the Trump Tower and The Art Of The Deal: The Movie have Trump in their name?

Wait. Shit. We’re really starting to stretch here and that last one isn’t even true.

Okay, so maybe Steve From Virginia didn’t actually stage his protest to be about Funny Or Die Presents: The Art Of The Deal: The Movie. Maybe he is just a confused kid who we hope gets the help he needs. All we know for sure is that if you want to stage your own anti-Trump protest from the comforts of your own home, you can now do so on Netflix.
