Washington DC has always had severely limited voting rights in our government and John Oliver is breaking down the shoddy logic of it all.

Our nation’s capital is wonderful for many reasons. First and foremost, the zoo is free and secondly it voted in a mayor that when caught allegedly doing cocaine at a strip bar he was quoted saying, “First, it was not a strip bar, it was an erotic club. And second, what can I say? I’m a night owl.”

But for all that is great about Washington DC, the city is incredibly limited in its power in the House and its many attempts to attain statehood have been shutdown by Congress members across the country. John Oliver argued for DC’s statehood and voting rights in another one of his incredibly impressive and thorough longer segments on his show.

Plus, if his oral argument doesn’t convince you, the segment ends in what is sure to be the political song of the summer!
