A friend of mine was a member of the Royal Navy, one night in a local pub in portsmouth a group of American sailors from a visiting destroyer were also out for a drink they all got chatting, having a drink and a laugh when my friends friend piped up that his grandfather had been in Pearl Harbour during the bombing at world war two.A big cheer went up from the American servicemen everybody started buying each other drinks in celebration, until one American asked what ship was his grandfather on,to which the reply was 'he wasn't on a ship he was a Kamikaze pilot'.A fight ensued and the pub was wrecked.

This story reminded me of something I used to say about how the Germans treated my grandfather terribly in Auschwitz during the war .Three years in that camp, and he wasn't promoted beyond Oberleutnant.
