CONGRATULATIONS TO WUSUMBALI FOR THE FIRST CORRECT ANSWER... A LUTHIERS FRET CUTTER.
THIS IS USED TO CUT FRET SLOTS IN ALL TYPES OF STRING INSTRUMENTS FROM THE UKULELE TO BASS. THERE WERE PREDETERMINED SETTINGS ON THE "CASE"SAW TO FIT ANY INTRUMENTS.
TODAYS GIZZY IS CIRCA 1870. A VERY WELL KEPT PIECE. THE BOX IS 6 INCHES BY 4 INCHES AND ABOUT 4 1/2 INCHES HIGH. WAS USED IN MOST HOUSEHOLDS BUT NOT IN INDUSTRY WHICH HAD MUCH LARGER DEVICES. THIS PIECE WOULD BE IN A WEALTHIER HOUSEHOLD BECAUSE IT WAS A TOP OF THE LINE, CUTTING EDGE INSTRUMENT...
WHAT IS IT ???
