Title: Wendy Freshner Fall Jobs

Job Title: Receptionist at Walker Pharmacy

Characters:

Wendy Freshner: After a miserable summer having one dead end job after an other. She is now working for her Mom’s ex-boyfriend.

Tyler Walker: Wendy’s new boss. He is mourning the loss of the his relationship with Wendy’s Mom.

Jessica Blackwell: Jessica comes in to get cold medicine. She meets a possible suitor. (Please read the sketch number 8)

EXT: Walker Pharmacy

_INT: Receptionist Desk. _

Wendy is busy working out a prescription order. She is on the telephone with a customer.

Wendy
Yes I know I am not the pharmacist. But he is out of commission at the moment thanks to you Mother. Yes I know i am not qualify but luckily for you that I know that you take Zanax that is a quarter dose. Can not believe I know that information.
(Pause)
Yes I know he is a cry baby.

Tyler Walker walks in the scene.

Tyler
I am a what now?

Wendy
Mom I got to go.

Wendy hangs up the phone.

Tyler
(Growls) So you bitch ass Mom thinks I am a wussy man child does she?

Wendy
(Gulps) She did not say that in so many words.

Tyler
Whatever. It is her lost! I am a catch! Women have been all over me.

Wendy
Gee, I thought the reason you hired me so you could get closer to my Mom in order to so you can woo her.

Tyler
No young lady, I hired you for your experience. Plus you were highly recommended.

Wendy
By my Mom.

Tyler
By your past employer, I did not say it was your mother.

Wendy
Uh huh, so when do I get that raise or I should not tell my Mom that you have changed?

Tyler
No raise is given at this time Ms. Freshner, I have my own social life.

Wendy
I thought your social life was hiding in the back of the store crying while listening to Joni Mitchell.

Tyler
That time of my life is over young lady, I happen to have moved on and coming to realize it is better to be single.

Wendy
Good for you sir. You sure you are okay at being single at your age though?

Tyler
Wendy, Wendy, no reason to worry I can handle being single and I am full grown man.

Wendy
Who likes to listen to Joni Mitchell.

Tyler
What was that Ms. Freshner?

Wendy
Just appreciating your taste of music sir!

Tyler
Now don’t go with calling me sir business Miss Freshner, just call me Uncle Tyler.

Tyler reaches over and ruffles her hair fondly. Wendy edges back.

Wendy
I’m nineteen years old Mr. Walker, and your no longer dating my Mom.

Tyler
Sure, of course Ms. Freshner, now excuse me as go in the back and ponder if I will ever procreate when I am about to reach forty.

Tyler leaves the scene.

Wendy
Do not be so sad Mr. Walker, I am sure…

Jessica Blackwell enters the scene.

Jessica
Well Miss. Freshner, I did not suspect you will be working at a local pharmacy. Your last job fell through hun?

Wendy
No Ms. Blackwell, this is my job on the weekends. I work for my Mother during the week.

Jessica
Well that certainly fulfills your time. You are not doing anymore birthday parties are you?

Wendy
Fraid not Miss Blackwell.

Jessica
Well is that a shame. My son was really entertained by your performance.

Wendy
By me drinking dirt water?

Jessica
(Scoffs) He calls it Magic Water. And he only gives it to people he really likes.

Wendy
(Sarcastically) Oh, do I feel special.

Tyler enters the scene.

Tyler
Oh Miss. Freshner, I forgot to mention that I am about to reduce your pay…oh hello there, now who do we have here?

Tyler and Jessica make eyes at each other.

Wendy
This is Ms. Blackwell, Mr. Walker.

Jessica
(Flirting) Call me Jessica.

Tyler
What a lovely name for such a lovely woman.

Tyler Walker bends down and kisses Jessica Blackwell’s hand.

Jessica
(Giggles) Oh Mr. Walker…

Wendy
(Coughs) Are you here to pick up a prescription Ms.Blackwell?

Jessica
Oh I am just picking up some cold medication for my son, could not find the right brand.

Wendy
Let me help….

Tyler
No No Ms. Freshner let the owner help this fine woman.

Tyler goes around the counter and then lends his arm to Jessica who gladly takes it.

Jessica
Maybe after you help me find my cold medicine we can go to my house.

Tyler
I would love too.

Jessica and Tyler leave the scene.

Wendy
(Calls after them) Just make sure you do not drink the water there Mr. Walker.
