Politicians, politics and special interest groups are the biggest buzz kill since the chastity belt. What kind of a world are we living in, when a buying a sandwich is a political statement? Personally I can careless who you marry, date, or fool around with, as long as you leave me alone and aren’t breaking any laws. Doesn’t living in the United States of America guarantee us the right to do what we want, when we want it, without constant interference from the government.
Chick-fil-A sells chicken, saving countless bovine lives, which should score them some points with vegetarians and cows. Yet all their good work is being brushed aside because some suit in the company is against gay marriage. I’m not sure why anyone would be against happy marriages in the first place, but it is his right to disagree. It is not like Chick-fil-A is not going to serve gay people or couples, so what is the big deal?
It is all about fundraising. The religious groups and the right will rally the troops to raise money to fight against the Godless gays and left. While the left and gay rights groups will rally the troops to battle the intolerant right and religious fanatics. Both sides will protest, get their three days of television time and move on to the next controversy.
I have accidently been part of protests in the past. As a youngster in a Catholic school the priests and nuns halled us out into the parking lot in front of television cameras to protest against something to this day I can’t remember. While attending Pitt I was part of a “Jeans for Gay Rights Day,” protest. Of course I didn’t know it was a JGRD until I was in class. This is similar to the “Tennis Shoes for Animal Rights Day,” and “Watches for Gun Rights Day,” protests I unknowingly stumbled into at various times.
All you political sub-species need to back off and get lives. My eating a Chick-fil-A sandwich is no more a political statement against gay marriage, than wearing clothes is a show of support for human rights violations in China. In protest of the protesters that want to take all the fun and enjoyment out of life I organizing an “Underwear for Personal Freedom Day,” next Friday. So you political activists can join us and put a pair on, or go commando. Whatever you decide to do is fine with me, it’s your right, but keep your hands off my chicken.
